Challenge
The personalised nature of the company meant that employees were idle when orders weren't coming in, so they had to hire part-timers, which meant a lot of time was wasted training them.
The process of personalizing the candles and toiletries was too complicated and exhausting for everyone involved.
Results
The goal of this 15-week project was to find the best solutions to these problems.
For the first task, we added two new products to our line: a bamboo toothbrush and jute toiletry bags with a jute brush cover. These items could be made even if no one ordered them and then kept in stock. When someone did order them, they could be rebranded and sold as extras to go with the candles and toiletries that were existing products. As an added bonus, we gave the employees a gamified level system based on work done, an attendance system, easier-to-understand training guides for the new products, and recycling seeded paper tags with their names stamped on them for all of the products.
For the second task, we came up with a whole plan for how customization will work, as well as a customization kit that will be sent to customers with their customized samples. All employee related prototypes were designed in Hindi making it usable for the rural workforce of the business.
We tested these methods and found them to work very well. The client is now making these changes to their current lineup.
